Warm Contact Pty Limited designs and manufactures products which increase the comfort and compliance of patients using eye care treatments. We are an emerging provider of products to global partners in the contact lens and solutions industries. The company’s first product is for use by contact lens wearers and Optometrists.
The company has recently attracted investment funding for its patented product and is currently seeking to engage global distribution partners.
The Warm Contact product has two main benefits, particularly for contact lens wearers who insert contact lenses in a bathroom and for Optometrists fitting new or near new contact lens patients in their practice. It is designed to improve patient "at home" lens care compliance and reduce microbial growth by actively drying lens storage cases at biocidal temperatures; and to improve the comfort of inserting contact lenses by reducing lens awareness by warming patient lenses in their container to body temperature prior to insertion.
Recent laboratory studies have shown that, depending on bathroom temperatures, passive air drying may not dry lens storage containers between use, particularly in countries which experience bathroom temperatures lower than 20 degrees Celsius. A wet lens case environment will allow microbes to remain viable and multiply.
A recent independent study found that patient non-compliance to daily lens case drying is one of the major risk factors for eye infection, therefore the product is designed to deliver "Active Drying" which will always result in shorter drying times, reduce the potential for microbial growth and deposits of air born particles and organisms known to exist in bathrooms.
In addition, it has been shown that warming lenses to body temperature (or the temperature of the Cornea) prior to insertion results in increased comfort, faster visual acuity, less tearing, lower lens rigidity during insertion and a feeling by lens wearers of "Inserting something less foreign" onto the eye.
Results from market research indicate that there are a number of benefits to contact lens wearers of raising the temperature of their lenses from ambient temperature to body temperature prior to fitting. Wearers found that there was significantly less in situ lens awareness immediately after insertion and for up to fifteen minutes, compared to fitting room temperature lenses.
